The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives. – Esther Perel

If every relationship experiences discomfort and challenges,
why do we have so few tools to turn towards them?
why do we have so few tools to turn towards them?
Are you:
Married with kids, newly wed, engaged, dating or single?
Running into differences about parenting, adulting or dealing with aging parents?
Recognizing that you hold different core values and beliefs than your partner, friends, siblings, parents or grown kids?
Renegotiating how you want to live the second half of life?
Building a relationship with yourself for the first time in your life?
Facing the loss of identity that comes with grief and loss?
We often face these complexities without any kind of road map as the old rules have changed and
we face challenges we couldn’t have imagined.
The one skill that has always been important has become even more critical:
COMMUNICATION
LISTENING
The world looks so different to each of the 9 Enneagram types.
How do we communicate with someone who has a
completely different experience of the same reality?
Instead of avoiding all of these issues, we can growth through DISCOMFORT.
WE’VE CREATED A TWO-DAY WORKSHOP to give you time to really explore
the dynamics of relationships through the lens of this powerful system.
There is no better time than these turbulent times to work together to understand one another.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Our goal is to harness the power of discomfort and difficult emotions to facilitate inner growth and create more connected relationships using an approach based on the 3-centers philosophy (head, heart and body):
Head: New learnings about your Enneagram patterns of stress
Heart: Compassionate presence to ourselves and others
Body: Gently, with attention, tune into your BODY intelligence which offers you direct, sensory access to the “Real I” that gets co-opted under stress.
During our workshop, you’ll:
1. LEARN THE COMMUNICATION STYLES, TRIGGERS AND CORE ISSUES OF THE 9 TYPES
2. PRACTICE THE POWER OF THE PAUSE AND PRESENCE
3. PRACTICE SELF-OBSERVATION & ACCEPTANCE OF UNCOMFORTABLE EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS
4. EXPLORE CROSS-TYPE COMMUNICATION AND THE VERY DIFFERENT WORLDVIEW OF THE 9 TYPES

1. LEARNING THE COMMUNICATION STYLES, TRIGGERS AND CORE ISSUES OF THE 9 TYPES
(Saturday & Sunday)
There’s power in numbers, and there’s power in people….and panels of people sharing their stories.
In observation of the Narrative Tradition, an experiential teaching method that is a living exploration of each Enneagram type, we’ll hear from a panel that spans Enneagram types, experiences, and perspectives.
As you get to know the panelists, you begin to see your own self appear too – your stories, choices, preferences, goals, what you avoid and what you desire, your “autopilot” type responses in relationship.
As you dive deep and see yourself, you’ll see others too: your friend, your partner, your parent or your offspring with more clarity. You may soften and feel more open hearted – and you’ll start to hear people having “ahas.”
“It isn’t the books and podcasts that open my heart. It is the stories of real people and their different challenges. It can be so hard to face limitations in relationship. After 25 years of working with the Enneagram, each time I hear a panel, I feel more understanding and kind.”
– Leslie
2 and 3.
PRACTICING SELF-OBSERVATION, ACCEPTANCE AND THE PAUSE
(Saturday & Sunday)
Repetition is a core component of people who change. Practice matters.
I (Leslie) do a daily practice of lovingkindness meditation.
When I skip it, I’m more critical, overly analytical and my heart shuts down.
Our Enneagram habits are wired into our brain. We need to practice managing our reactivity. We need to know how our bodies react when on “autopilot.”
There’s no such thing as sustaining change without small, incremental practice.
This is why we are practice focused facilitators.
In this portion of the workshop, you learn the inner practice of gentle self-observation integrated with a practical knowledge of your Enneagram pattern.

This includes:
A core PAUSE practice to take your learning into real life.
Seeing your habit and accepting it with kindness.
Learning to let go of your type identifications and reactivity in order to become more present to others, ourselves and Spirit [or whatever you call that which is larger than yourself].
You will also benefit from Leslie’s training in Somatic Experiencing, a way of working with yourself that incorporates your human body’s normal responses to strong emotions when in relationship.

3. LIVE INTERACTIONS:
EXPLORING CROSS-TYPE COMMUNICATION
(Sunday only)
In the Sunday portion of the workshop, Leslie and Niki create a safe space, and provide grounding practice, coaching and insight so audience volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with another attendee who shares the type that challenges you.
It goes like this:
- A volunteers shares their experience with a person who represents the type with whom they’re having a hard time communicating.
- The other person listens through the lens of their type and shares what’s happening inside of them without defensiveness.
- You have the opportunity to hear what’s at stake for them and how they hear you.

Deepening self-awareness and interpersonal awareness doesn’t happen in isolation.
Engage your 3 centers and the Enneagram with others in a rich, supportive, learning environment through participation in a workshop that offers you the opportunity to explore your inner landscape and learn from others.
Pam Parsons Dupuy, Marriage and Family Therapist, COO iAwake Technologies, on Leslie’s teachings:
Leslie is probably the most gifted Enneagram teacher out there. She’s excellent, dynamic, funny, has a heart and a desire to serve. She is approachable and works well with clients. She takes the Enneagram from surface level to depth, gets grounded and you can hear her compassion. As she gently guides my students with equanimity, I am incredibly impressed. I’ve never seen the Enneagram used the way she works with it.
Susan Smith, a past Enneagram Panel Participant, on Leslie’s teaching style:
“Leslie, I want to express my deep appreciation for your teaching. I especially love your deep respect for each person who speaks but especially so for those who shared on the panel.
Your gentleness with an instrument like the Enneagram that can be misused to invoke shame or guilt is really inspirational.”

Where are you now?:
The Power of the Pause.
Throughout the weekend, you practice The Pause.
Drop in and down inside of yourself.
Ask:
Are you in your automatic head space with its assumptions and projections?
Or is your mind clear and open?
Are you caught up in the turbulent heart of emotions and over-dependent on managing how others see you?
Or are you attuned with the heart of compassion to yourself and other?
Are you scattered, stubborn, defensive, or contracted?
Or are you grounded and flexible?
A practice-based approach to the Enneagram puts you in touch with these core questions.
THOUGHTS FROM LESLIE

“When I went through my Enneagram training and heard my first Narrative Enneagram panels, I felt like I understood my parents and my partner in a way I hadn’t before. It wasn’t the books that opened my heart. It was the stories and the distinct suffering of these types.”
“I was slightly skeptical with the Live Interactions the first time I participated. Within a short period of time, my skepticism receded. I volunteered and chose to do an interaction with a woman who reminded me of my sister who had died earlier in the year. She was a 6.
As I shared, it was as if this woman were speaking words my sister would have said. hI saw something I hadn’t been able to see before. To this day, this interaction has stayed with me.
“I think the Enneagram is here because we need it on a global basis.
We need to take more responsibility for the thoughts and emotions that guide our emotions in the world and to experience the reality of standing in someone else’s shoes.
We need to know that objective reality appears to be quite different from another type’s perspective, yet each has its own logic and integrity.”
— Helen Palmer, noted Narrative Enneagram teacher, author & speaker

CAN I REGISTER FOR ONE DAY ONLY?
-
While we encourage you to attend both days, we understand that schedules don’t always permit this. Yes, you can register for one day with this caution in mind:
If you miss a day, due to confidentiality of the panelists and the time limitations for facilitators, we cannot catch you up on missed information.

No, Leslie believes that inner transformation isn’t something that can be certified. This workshop calls us into our own agency and inner work. We grow together.

Why? There is extensive administrative work and deposits required for an event like this. We are committed to paying our hosts and suppliers a fair wage and if you cancel, we want to have time to offer an opening to others who may be interested in order to ensure our costs are covered.
If there is a serious weather-related event, the workshop will be moved online for one or two of the days.
